Comparing University Courses at Falmouth:

Updated: Nov 8, 2018

Marine and Natural History Photography (Falmouth):

The marine and natural history course that Falmouth university offers, allows all students on the course to focus on photographing the natural world in a very broad range. Some of the work past students have produced is based around the ocean, land, wildlife or habitats. Students on this course have the opportunity to travel around to a range of places globally to take photos regarding natural wildlife and nature etc. Another way that this course benefits due to the location of the uni itself, is you are able to experiment with underwater photography and scuba diving along the cornish coasts, with all of the equipment made easily available to you from the university. In my opinion the university gives you the chance to take a holistic approach to wildlife photography both above and below water.

Photography BA Hons:

This course is made for students to look into all various kinds and types of photography on the whole. There is no specific subject matter of what photographs students should be aiming to take. In other words, the course prioritises your individual interests. While the course challenges you to think beyond predicable modes of representation, you're able to develop ideas that are completely your own. Students before taking this course, have dabbled in documentary and landscape photography, although all ideas are completely open. Past students careers produced by taking this course range from photographers for Cadbury, Big Sky Studios and the Tate Modern.

Press and Editorial Photography:

This course is said to be very audience focused. Students taking the course are taught the ways and what they need to do to gain a real photojournalism experience. The reason the course is very audience based is because photojournalism is all about communicating to people or spreading a message as such through the use of photographs. This course is very similar based to the work that Nic Dunlop does, who I have researched and talked about previously in my blog. The main aim of the course is for students to become and come out of the course as confident photographers, working on local, national and international assignments for a global audience. Once completing and leaving this course the careers it opens up for your future can include: Photojournalist, Editorial Photographer, Picture Editor, Publication Designer and Multimedia Producers.
